Epson Mobile Printer Support for Android KitKat Devices

Epson mobile printer support for Android KitKat was announced today, adding wireless printing support to a fleet of the company’s new and existing printers and multifunction devices. Epson mobile printer support is made possibly by Android KitKat and was brought online to deliver simplified wireless printing to any Epson printer from any device running the new version of the Android software. Android Printing is the OS’ native printing platform that was introduced in Android KitKat (version 4.4) software.

Android Printing lets anyone on an Android smart phone or tablet (running  KitKat) print without requiring a dedicated printing app. That means documents, photos, web pages, emails and more can be output at the touch of a button. There are more than 60 Epson Connect-enabled printers and MFPs which offer this built-in printing support. Epson mobile printer support is now possible on Android KitKat devices from Samsung, Google, and HTC. Apple users still need to utilize either AirPrint—the proprietary format that is iOS-only—or third-party apps like handyPrint that share printers to iOS devices on local networks.

With Epson mobile printer support being enabled within Android KitKat, printing on mobile devices is easier than ever for mobile users and developers or print-centric apps. What’s more, Epson mobile printer support is being provided on legacy printers dating as far back as 2008. That means that users are only a few clicks away from printing using existing Google apps on mobile devices. Additionally, printing support will be guaranteed on future Google Android apps as well.

What we like about this approach is that, since Epson mobile printer support is provided through Android Printing, Android devices don’t require a special app to print. Everything is seamless from within the print-enabled native app they are using. All compatible available printers are instantly discoverable, and users can do common functions such as changing paper sizes, and choosing print ranges.
